Domain Transfer Questions

Question: How do I know if I put in the NameServers correctly?
There are two ways you can check. The first method is by looking at your settings inside
your Account Manager  and the second method is by looking up your domain name through
our Whois Lookup Tool.

To check your DNS settings through Account Manager:
1. Login Account Manager
2. Click on "Domain Accounts" link
3. Click on the domain name you want to manage.
4. Click on "Change DNS Nameservers" Link
5. On that page, if you see the expected NameServers listed, then everything is correct.
Just wait 24-48 hours for the NameServers to fully propagate.

To check your DNS settings through the Whois:
1. Use the Whois Lookup Tool at: http://hostsite.com/cgi-bin/whois.cgi
2. Enter in your domain name and the 3 character code displayed.
3. Look at the bottom of your WHOIS record to see your NameServers in listed order:
Assuming you are using our hosting or email service for this example,
It should read in the following format:

Domain servers in listed order:
ns1.hostsites.com      216.93.188.125
ns2.hostsites.com      207.228.236.52
ns3.hostsites.com      69.44.61.142

It really does not matter in which order your NameServers are inputted or displayed
just as long as all the expected NameServers are listed. The IP addresses listed
next to the NameServers do not have to show for your NameServers to work.
